Publication Ethics

IDEA  Journal Design Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Surabaya is a scientific publication that presents research results in the field of design in a broad sense. This statement of scientific publication ethics serves as a code of ethics for all parties involved in the publication process, namely:

  1. Journal Management,

  2. Editors,

  3. Peer Reviewers, and

  4. Authors.

This statement of publication ethics refers to the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications.

In essence, the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications upholds three ethical values in publication:

  1. Neutrality, free from conflicts of interest in the management of publications;

  2. Fairness, granting authorship rights to those entitled as authors; and

  3. Honesty, free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DFFP) in publication.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief

  1. Determine the journal’s name, scope, frequency, and accreditation, if needed.

  2. Appoint members of the editorial team.

  3. Define the relationship between publisher, editors, reviewers, and other related parties.

  4. Uphold confidentiality for all parties involved (researchers, authors, editors, reviewers).

  5. Enforce norms and rules regarding intellectual property rights, especially copyright.

  6. Review journal policies and communicate them to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers.

  7. Establish a code of conduct for editors and reviewers.

  8. Publish the journal regularly.

  9. Ensure the availability of funding for journal sustainability.

  10. Develop partnerships and marketing strategies.

  11. Improve the quality of the journal continuously.

  12. Handle licensing and other legal aspects.


Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

  1. Provide constructive feedback on the manuscript to help readers understand the author’s intent.

  2. Comment on the manuscript in accordance with proper language standards (e.g., PUEBI or other standardized language as used by the journal).

  3. Work to continuously improve the quality of the journal.

  4. Promote academic freedom and objectivity.

  5. Publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary.

  6. Ensure submitted manuscripts do not contain discriminatory, offensive, or harmful content, and consult with the Editor-in-Chief for sensitive material.

  7. Accept, evaluate, and respond to complaints from all parties involved in the publication process.

  8. Support initiatives to educate researchers on publication ethics.

  9. Avoid biased judgments influenced by personal views, the author, or third parties.

  10. Encourage authors to improve their work to meet publishing standards.

  11. Format accepted manuscripts according to the journal’s template.

  12. Assist the Editor-in-Chief in finalizing manuscripts before printing and publication, especially regarding language, formatting, and layout.


Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

  1. Provide written, objective, and unbiased feedback on the manuscript’s scientific value and contribution to the field.

  2. Assess whether the manuscript is clear, complete, relevant, and within the journal’s scope.

  3. Avoid making personal criticisms or comments.

  4. Maintain confidentiality by not discussing the manuscript with unauthorized parties or disclosing any information from it.


Duties and Responsibilities of the Website Administrator

The Website Administrator is responsible for managing the journal's online system. Specific tasks include:

  1. Setting up the journal website;

  2. Configuring system options and managing user accounts;

  3. Registering editors, reviewers, and authors;

  4. Managing journal features;

  5. Viewing statistical reports; and

  6. Uploading/publishing accepted manuscripts.
