Abstract

Abstract¾ The increasing production of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) vessels in traditional shipyards contributes to higher waste generation. The lack of information regarding the quantity and characteristics of this waste makes it difficult to assess the sustainability of recycling FRP waste into composite boards. This study aims to estimate FRP waste based on vessel GT size and identify the physical forms of waste produced during the manufacturing process at the CV. Roni Marine Shipyard, Cilacap. The method used includes direct observation, vessel sampling by size, and classification and weighing of waste based on its type/shape. Results show that FRP composite waste in sheet/plate form accounts for the highest percentage (67%), followed by purse solid FRP composite waste (30%), and impure solid FRP composite waste (3%). The average amount of FRP waste generated per 1 Gross Tonnage (GT) of a vessel is 2.73 kg/GT. The highest amount of waste was produced during the frame installation stage. These findings are important for improving waste management efficiency and supporting the recycling of FRP waste into value-added products such as composite boards.
