Abstract

Diesel engines offer the highest efficiency compared to other internal combustion engines, and are therefore widely used in industry and transport. However, exhaust emissions from the combustion of diesel fuel pose a threat to the environment and human health. As a preventive measure, research has been conducted with the aim of modifying the fuel system or combustion system to reduce exhaust emissions. The research employed an experimental approach, involving the preheating of fuel using a recovery jacket cooler before it entered the combustion chamber of a 70 kW Mitsubishi 4D30 diesel engine, which was connected to a Hofman Test Stand Type Afa 19 water brake dynamometer.  Data were collected under 100% engine load conditions, with temperatures set at 30°C, 40°C, 50°C, 60°C, and 70°C, and at different speeds of 1800 rpm, 2000 rpm, and 2200 rpm. The results demonstrate that fuel preheating can reduce exhaust emissions from diesel engines.
