Development of a Web-Based Heavy Lifting Planning and Rigging Evaluation System for FPSO Module Decommissioning

Abstract

Heavy lifting operations during the decommissioning of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit require comprehensive engineering planning to ensure lifting safety, load stability, and operational efficiency. Conventional lifting planning relies on separate manual calculations, which can lead to inefficiencies and inconsistencies in engineering evaluations. This study aims to develop a web-based heavy lifting planning and rigging evaluation system for Electrical House (E-House) module lifting operations in FPSO Ningaloo Vision decommissioning activities. A quantitative engineering approach based on static load analysis and lifting engineering principles was applied. The developed system integrates crane capacity evaluation, sling load analysis, rigging configuration assessment, and Ground Bearing Pressure (GBP) evaluation into a single web-based platform. The analysis was conducted using a design lifting load of 334.367 tons under several lifting configurations. The results indicate that sling angles and rigging configurations significantly affect load distribution and lifting safety. The proposed system enables automated engineering evaluations and supports a more systematic lifting planning process compared to conventional manual methods. The novelty of this research lies in integrating lifting calculations, rigging evaluation, and safety assessments into a web-based engineering support system for offshore heavy lifting operations.
