Journal History

JMES: The International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Sciences (JMES) was established in 2017 by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Indonesia, to provide an international platform for disseminating high-quality research in mechanical engineering and related disciplines. The journal published its inaugural issue in the same year and has since adopted a fully open-access publishing model to promote the unrestricted exchange of scientific knowledge among researchers, academics, and industry professionals worldwide.

Since its establishment, JMES has continuously enhanced its editorial quality and publication standards by implementing a rigorous peer-review process, strengthening its editorial board and international reviewer network, and adhering to internationally recognized publication ethics. These continuous improvements have led to the journal's SINTA 3 accreditation and its inclusion in several national and international indexing databases.

To further improve its publishing quality and international visibility, JMES has continuously modernized its editorial management system, most recently through the implementation of Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3, providing a more efficient editorial workflow and improved publishing experience for authors, reviewers, and editors.

Milestones

  • 2017 – JMES was established by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Indonesia.
  • 2017 – Publication of the inaugural issue (Volume 1).
  • 2021 – Registered with the ISSN International Centre (e-ISSN: 2580-7471).
  • 2021 – Awarded SINTA 3 accreditation by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. 
  • 2026 – Upgraded to Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3 to enhance editorial workflow, user experience, and publication management.
  • Present – JMES continues to strengthen its international editorial standards, expand global collaboration, improve publication quality, and increase its visibility as a reputable international journal in mechanical engineering and related disciplines.
