Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics Statement
Jurnal Desain IDEA is a scientific publication that contains research results in the field of design in general. This scientific code of ethics statement is a code of ethics statement for all parties involved in the publication process of this scientific journal, namely:
- Managers,
- Editors,
- Reviewers,
- and Authors/Writers.
This scientific publication code of ethics statement refers to the Regulation of the Head of LIPI Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publication.
In essence, this Scientific Publication Code of Ethics upholds three ethical values in publication, namely:
- Neutrality, which is free from conflicts of interest in publication management;
- Fairness, which grants authorship rights to those who are entitled as authors/writers; and
- Honesty, which is free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publication.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief
- Determining the journal name, scientific scope, periodicity, and accreditation if necessary.
- Determining editorial membership.
- Defining the relationships between the publisher, editors, reviewers, and other parties.
- Respecting matters of confidentiality, both for contributing researchers, authors/writers, editors, and reviewers.
- Applying norms and provisions regarding intellectual property rights, particularly copyright.
- Reviewing journal policies and conveying them to authors/writers, editors, reviewers, and readers.
- Creating a code of conduct guide for editors and reviewers.
- Publishing the journal regularly.
- Ensuring the availability of funding sources for the sustainability of journal publication.
- Building networks of cooperation and marketing.
- Carrying out journal quality improvement.
- Preparing permits and other legal aspects.
Responsibilities of Editors
- Editors provide comments on the author's writing so that readers can understand what the author intends to convey, through comments written on the manuscript.
- Editors provide comments on the author's writing in accordance with PUEBI (General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling) or language that conforms to journal standards.
- Editors strive for continuous improvement of publication quality;
- Editors prioritize objective freedom of opinion;
- Editors convey corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary;
- Editors ensure that the author's writing does not involve issues of ethnicity, religion, race, or inter-group relations (SARA) or anything that could harm the Publisher, and coordinate the author's writing with the editor-in-chief if the writing is somewhat controversial.
- Editors receive, review, and follow up on complaints from all parties involved in journal publication;
- Editors support initiatives to educate researchers on publication ethics;
- Editors do not defend their own opinions, the author's, or third parties' opinions that could result in an unobjective decision;
- Editors encourage authors/writers to make improvements to their manuscripts until they are suitable for publication.
- Editors perform layout of manuscripts to be published so that they conform to the journal template.
- Editors assist the editor-in-chief in finalizing the collection of manuscripts before printing and publication, particularly regarding language, format, and layout.
Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Providing objective and unbiased written feedback on the scientific merit and contribution of the manuscript to the development of knowledge;
- Indicating whether the manuscript writing is sufficiently clear, complete, and relevant, and whether the manuscript is within the journal's scope;
- Not providing personal criticism or comments; and
- Maintaining the confidentiality of the manuscript by not discussing it with unrelated parties or disclosing information contained within the manuscript to others.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Website Administrator
The Website Administrator is the person responsible for the management of the journal website. Specifically, the scope of duties of the Website Administrator is as follows:
- Preparing the journal website;
- Configuring system options and managing user accounts;
- Registering editors, reviewers, and authors;
- Managing journal features;
- Viewing report statistics; and
- Uploading/publishing manuscripts that have been accepted.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
Use of AI by Authors
AI may assist with language editing or analysis, but authors remain fully responsible for the manuscript. AI tools must not be listed as authors. Substantial AI assistance must be disclosed. AI must not be used to falsify data or generate undisclosed content.
Use of AI by ReviewersReviewers must not upload confidential manuscript content into AI systems. AI may be used for language assistance only if confidentiality is maintained. AI must not replace independent scholarly judgment.
Use of AI by EditorsEditors must not submit confidential manuscripts or reviews to AI tools. AI may assist with administrative tasks but must not replace editorial judgment or peer review.
Confidentiality and AccountabilityAI tools must not compromise confidentiality. Responsibility for ethical conduct remains with human participants.
Handling of Violations
The journal will investigate alleged ethical violations in accordance with COPE guidelines. Actions may include manuscript rejection, publication of corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or notification to relevant institutions, depending on the severity of the case.
Post-Publication Responsibilities
Corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern are handled in accordance with the journal's Retraction and Correction Policy, which is also aligned with COPE standards.
