Abstract

In geotechnical planning on soft soils to reduce long-term consolidation settlement can use vertical drain with surcharge. Several methods for evaluating consolidation settlement, one of which is by using the results of observations the Asaoka method. The Asaoka method is a reliable method if the filling process does not cause changes in water level. On swamp land, the final settlement prediction using the Asaoka method becomes inaccurate if the water level at the existing ground level (EGL) is inconsistent. The analysis concludes that changes in water level cause changes in the effective pressure on the foundation soil so the Asaoka plot cannot be made properly. Errors in determining the linear regression line resulted in the prediction of the final settlement (Sf), so that the determination of the consolidation time (t90) was incorrect. Therefore, the final settlement analysis should take into account the construction procedures and changes in water level.
